When your child is given a diagnosis of a learning or behavioral challenge, you are often looking at a label. As you know, your child is more than that label. Moreover, that label is often just a few words trying to describe hundreds (or thousands) of individual kids. Let's peek under those labels to look at the different needs a child has that could make a professional think that label fits; then, let's see what we can do to address those needs.

This training provides an overview of the unusual behaviors that complex developmental trauma presents in children. These behaviors are the manifestation of the effects of trauma on the developing brain. In this training, participants will gain knowledge of brain development, the limbic system's amazing responses (fight, flight and freeze), and practical bottom-up ways to soothe the child who has experienced trauma.

In this workshop, we will explore how to hold the complexities of parenting a child with higher needs. Many parents feel overwhelmed and paralyzed by two opposing beliefs being true at the same time! For example: “I love my child AND I don’t know how I can continue to live like this.” You will learn how to hold, at the same time, both gratitude and joy as well as fatigue and helplessness. Research supports that being able to embody “both/and” is the essence of mental health and creates resiliency in parents. By learning how to hold tension and dualities within parenting, you will experience more self-compassion and be able to show up authentically with your children. (June 2021)

This course will help participants talk about their emotions, support the process of grieving, and understand that where there is deep love, there will be deep grief. We will share ideas to help caregivers talk to their adopted children about the concept of disenfranchised grief. (Part 1 of 2)

This webinar provides guidelines and advice for child welfare professionals and caregivers regarding the detailed process of youth placement consideration. It explores the efforts of child welfare agencies to promote safety, permanency, and child well-being while understanding various general predictors of placement outcomes. The class includes a detailed discussion regarding placement goals with regard to the top basic needs of the youth and open-minded family matches with review of race, color, spoken language, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin, family dynamics, and child behavior problems. As you begin to think about what type of adoption is the best fit for your family, this video will offer insight regarding domestic infant adoption and adopting internationally. We will explain the domestic infant adoption process including finding an agency, birth parent relinquishment, openness, costs, and more. We will provide information about international adoption in general regarding agency selection, costs, and considerations. Because international adoption is always changing with regard to country regulations and procedures, we are not able to provide detailed information in this video and ensure its accuracy. Ecomapping: Building Strength & Support through Relationships (April 2022)

Relationships are everything, contributing highly to our overall success and well-being. In this workshop, we explore a visual representation of all the different connections impacting an individual’s family or life. We all have needs that go beyond our current support system; together, we identify areas of deprivation where resources may be needed. Our goal was to ensure that families and professionals become stronger in all areas of life, using an eco-map as a tool to help them see their environment in a new way.
