This is an advanced FASD training for individuals who have completed an introductory course or done sufficient independent study regarding the cognitive impact of fetal alcohol exposure in children. This training will include a panel of parent experts who will discuss appropriate interventions for parenting children impacted by FASD. Participants will have the opportunity to submit questions during the registration process that will be incorporated into the training panel discussion. Eileen Bisgard, J.D., is the President of NOFAS Colorado and an attorney practicing in juvenile court and an adoptive parent of children with FASD. She has been offering trainings on the management of children with FASD for over fifteen years. Part 1 of 2.

The Sims-Fayola Foundation partnered with Raise the Future in January 2021 to share their knowledge and passion for improving the lives of young men and boys of color by addressing the educational and community obstacles that directly affect their life outcomes. Systemic obstacles contribute to a stubbornly persistent narrative for this population. Some aspects of this narrative include:

* Low graduation rates

* High truancy and dropout rates

* Over-identification for special education

* High incarceration rates (School-To-Prison Pipeline)

* Disproportionately high suspension and expulsion rates

This training affirms that young men and boys of color are valuable members of our community with essential contributions to make. This training aims to increase participants' understanding of caring for boys of color within four multi-dimensional areas of engagement: academic, behavioral, cognitive, and affective. This training continues the conversation and learning from Part 1 to increase participants' understanding of caring for boys of color within four multi-dimensional areas of engagement: academic, behavioral, cognitive, and affective. This training will focus on the benefits and necessity of having racial mirrors in the racial identity development process for young boys and men of color.

• Foster to adopt / Legal risk placements
• Adoption assistance
• Information about children who are legally free waiting for adoption

• Post-adoption support
• Adopting outside of your state

As caregivers, we have a responsibility to prepare our children for independence as they become adults. The process of enhancing a child’s ability to be self-reliant begins when children are very young and continues into young adulthood. Caregivers begin this process with the simplest learning opportunities in daily living skills, increasing the complexity of the activities and skills as the child succeeds and matures. Building self-reliant teenagers is an intentional process. Tools to foster self-reliance in teenagers at various stages and developmental levels are covered in this training. (June 2021)
