Connection Events

One of the ways that Raise the Future helps connect youth and families in Colorado, Nevada, and Utah is through Connection Events.

Connection Events provide home studied prospective parents and waiting children and youth an opportunity to interact in a neutral, fun, engaging, and non-threatening space with structured activities. Because these types of events are structured for a small group of eight waiting children and youth and eight waiting families, caseworkers and children of prospective parents are not in attendance. Prospective parents and youth attending these events participate in a variety of activities, including stations led by venue staff. Raise the Future staff members lead ice breaker activities and are available to address any concerns or challenges during the day.

What to expect:

  • Connection Events usually last 4-5 hours.
  • These events are not about putting youth on display – therefore, all youth, prospective parents, and staff will actively participate and engage in all the activities together.
  • Activities are designed to encourage natural group interactions.
  • Prior to starting the activity, youth and prospective parents will participate in simple ice breakers facilitated by Raise the Future staff members. These are designed to help everyone relax and become comfortable engaging in the event.
  • Examples of past events include a cooking lesson, arts and crafts, and indoor skiing.
